We would like to make everyone aware of an ongoing scam involving a text message claiming to be from E-ZPass. Residents have been receiving text messages claiming to be from E-ZPass, and after clicking the link, they began experiencing unauthorized charges to their bank accounts. The link included in the text message was not a genuine E-ZPass link, but rather a compromised website created to appear as E-ZPass, which is actually under the control of hackers.
If you have been receiving suspicious text messages, please carefully observe the telephone number the message came from, as this is a strong indication that a scam is taking place. Also, carefully observe the characters in the message, as a change in the font of one letter often indicates a scam message.
We encourage anyone who may have received one of these messages to log into their E-ZPass account and bank account to ensure that their accounts have not been compromised. If you have been compromised, please notify your bank immediately and flag your accounts for further security. E-ZPass can also be reached by telephone at (508)-786-5222 or online at ezdrivema.com.
Similarly, scam text messages from individuals and groups claiming to be from banks, the US Government, and other financial institutions have been circulating. If you have received any suspicious messages, please contact the office or institution directly to determine the validity of the messages and communications.
As always, please contact the Randolph Police Department with further questions or concerns.
