The Bureau of Criminal Investigations is responsible for conducting in-depth investigations into crimes that require more extensive follow-up than patrol officers can provide. Our detectives focus on developing cases through detailed investigative work that ultimately lead to the identification, apprehension, and successful prosecution of offenders.
General investigations, the court prosecutor (the liaison between the department and the courts), internal affairs (which investigates complaints from the public), the drug and youth violence units (which combat gangs and conduct drug investigations), and the school resource officers (who work inside the public school system) all fall under the umbrella of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
