RANDOLPH — Chief Anthony Marag reports that the Randolph Police Department arrested and charged a man following a bank robbery this morning.
JOSEPH EMMANUEL, AGE 30, of AVON, was charged with:
- Armed Robbery
- Making Bomb Threats
EMMANUEL is expected to be arraigned today in Quincy District Court.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at approximately 9:44 a.m., Randolph Police responded to Citizens Bank, located at 50 S. Main St., for a report of a bank robbery and bomb threat.
EMMANUEL allegedly passed a note to a teller stating that he had a bomb that he would blow up if he did not receive money.
The teller, per bank policy, sounded the silent alarm button while providing EMMANUEL an undisclosed amount of money.
Randolph Police immediately responded and set up a perimeter outside the bank. Simultaneously, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad and FBI Bank Robbery Task Force were notified.
Citizens Bank employees communicated with Randolph Police to describe the suspect and his location.
EMMANUEL allegedly exited the bank with envelopes containing cash and was arrested by Randolph Police. The bank and parking lot were deemed safe by Massachusetts State Police and Bridgewater Police Bomb Detection K9s. No explosives were found.
“This is an example of incredible police work by our officers who responded quickly to arrest the suspect before he could even leave the scene,” said Chief Marag. “I would like to thank our law enforcement partners who responded to the scene to assist us. I’m glad that there was a safe outcome for all involved today.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
